A Planning Application has been submitted for the development of Kellas Drum Wind Farm.
The proposed Kellas Drum Renewable Energy Development will comprise up to 8 wind turbines and up to 149.9m tip height with a total generation capacity of up to 36MW. In addition, it is proposed to include 30MW of battery storage capacity. It will be located on the Kellas Estate approximately 10km southwest of Elgin, Moray.
There is an existing consent that was granted for the site in 2014 for 4 turbines up to 110m tip height, with a capacity of 12MW. Since 2014, the market has evolved substantially, and it is considered that turbines at this scale are not economically viable or efficient given the site’s potential and development of better technology.
The applicant is Kellas Drum Limited, which is an associated company of E Power Ltd.
E Power Ltd. (EPL) is a renewable energy company focused on developing onshore wind, solar and battery projects in the United Kingdom. Established in Scotland in 2018, with an office in Dunfermline. the Directors of EPL have extensive experience in the development and operation of renewable energy projects in the UK, Ireland and Europe.
If approved, E Power is also committed to providing a community benefit fund equivalent to £5,000 per megawatt of installed capacity per year. Based on an assumed installed capacity of 36MW, this will result in an annual value of approximately £180,000 per year. With a 35-year lifespan, this will provide approximately £6.3 million in community benefit.
